Post-operative Morphine Pain Relief Overview:
Depodur
is a post-operative pain relief drug primarily for hospital
use, which achieves its mode of action by injection of an
extended release liposome delivering morphine sulfate for
sustained pain relief, administered as a single dose epidural
injection.
DepoDur
is a single dose extended-release injectable formulation
of morphine sulphate for up to 48 hours post-operative pain
relief. DepoDur uses the proprietary DepoFoam technology
and is supplied as a ready-to-use suspension. Delivery is
by a single epidural injection before, or during surgery
and provides pain relief for up to 48 hours following surgery.
This route of administration negates the need for a permanent
catheter for continuous infusion, thus removinghte need
for an otherwise theoretically desirable epidural route
of administration for opioid analgesics.
DepoDur
is formulated for the control of pain after major surgery.
Min uses are the control of post-operative pain in hospitalised
patients, particularly those undergoing major surgical procedures
where there is a usual requirement for general, or regional
anaesthesia. particularly effective in cases of major abdominal
surgery, orthopaedic surgery and caesarean section.
